Exploring extremes: Slovenia’s tiny alpine shelter defies the elements

Constructed in three distinct layers, the alpine shelter embraces a modular design approach, allowing for off-site prefabrication and minimal disruption to the natural landscape. The outer shell, fortified with fiber-reinforced concrete cladding, serves as the first line of defense against the elements, while a sturdy steel core forms the structural frame, ensuring stability in the face of extreme weather fluctuations. Inside, the warm embrace of Larch timber panels fosters a welcoming atmosphere, complemented by triple-glazed structural glass windows that offer panoramic views of the breathtaking surroundings.

The logistics of transporting the shelter to its remote location were nothing short of extraordinary. Divided into three sections, the prefabricated modules were airlifted by helicopter and meticulously assembled on-site, anchored securely to the ground without compromising the integrity of the mountain landscape.
