Spacious, modern and comfortable, this tiny house was created by talented designer Rebecca Ransley in order to escape the escalating rental prices in New Zealand. Built on her sister’s countryside property, Ransley meticulously designed the tiny house to provide a cozy and functional living space for herself and her son.

Covering an area of 10 by 35 feet, the tiny house maximizes its compact space effectively. The design, 1.5 feet wider than the typical tiny house, significantly enhances the sense of openness and roominess within the dwelling. The additional width allows for a more expansive living room, featuring a large, inviting sofa and a television. High ceilings and ample windows flood the space with natural light, contributing to its airy ambiance.

The sleek and modern kitchen is equipped with contemporary appliances and LED strip lighting that brightens the area. Mirrors are strategically placed throughout the house to interact with the sunlight, creating an illusion of extra space and enhancing the open and relaxing feel. The color palette, consisting of creams and soft pinks, further accentuates this atmosphere.
Towards the end of the hallway, a child’s bedroom is tucked away, offering a surprisingly spacious area for a tiny house. The room provides a comfortable and private space with provisions for a child’s bed, storage for clothing and toys, and a distinctive glow-in-the-dark feature wall depicting the night sky. Upstairs, a cozy queen-sized bed is positioned near a window, allowing for a sunlit bedroom area. Elevated storage platforms optimize the space, and a home office, complete with a desk and space for two monitors, is also included.

The exterior of the tiny house features black corrugated metal siding complemented by white window frames, exuding a striking modern aesthetic. Glass doors lead out to a versatile and easily transportable modular deck. Designed by Rebecca Ransley, these decks are now available as a commercial product called Ready Deck Systems, offering an effortless DIY deck option.
The total cost of constructing this spacious tiny home suitable for a small family amounted to approximately US$142,000. Despite the price tag, for Ransley, the satisfaction of creating and owning her own home renders this tiny house invaluable.
