Micromansional’s best of Milan Design Week

Earlier this month saw Milan’s sought after Salone del Mobile once again grace the city streets with creativity, color, and innovative design. Following a series of unfortunate delays and uncertainty due to Covid-19, the Milan Design Week was in full swing from the 5th to 12th September. Boasting a total of 1900 projects on exhibit and curated by world renown Italian architect Stefano Boeri and his unique team international designers, Micromansional was lucky to be one of the lucky invitees to this year’s “Supersalone” and “Fuorisalone”.

This year the Milan Design Week and Supersalone showcased the cream of the crop in research projects and innovative design, achieved by an entire design sector that has been recovering and recreating over the last 18 months. Looking towards the future, beyond the current Covid-19 climate, a common thread among the designers was cutting edge creativity, new technology, sustainability, and health. With many new designers presenting their eco-collections centered around sustainability, longevity and embracing circular use of materials.
“A major theme underpinning ‘Supersalone’ is the concept of sustainability and the issue of reuse, recycling and circularity,” says the Salone del Mobile 2021 press team. “This approach is crucial in terms of returning not just to the same level of economic development as before the recent crisis, but also to striving for better and more responsible development.”
Contributing to the eco-design strategy of the event, all the materials and components of the installations have been made from reclaimed materials and will be ploughed back into the construction production cycle on completion of the event.

In addition, the influential ‘Fuorisalone’ design show ventured out into the streets of Milan, featuring a series of exhibits and events scattered throughout the city by a collective of designers from all over the world. In true Italian style the city came to life with innovative ideas, new technology, cutting-edge design, and a renewed lust for life.
