In the sprawling mountain ranges of Mexico’s Northern Oaxaca mountains, a slick concrete cabin called Bungalow H blends seamlessly into the spectacular vistas. Created by accomplished architect, Omar López Bautista, Bungalow H offers all you would need for a peaceful mountain retreat, with minimal impact on the surrounding environment.
Located about 20 minutes from the charming small town of San Andrés Huayápam, Bungalow H takes full advantage of the vast landscape that surrounds it. In recent years, these mountain landscapes have become a desirable destination for local and international tourists alike. Bungalow H’s design is tailored towards minimizing the structure’s environmental and visual impact on the setting. Situated in a spacious area punctuated by trees, the exterior of the cabin is painted matte black, allowing it to blend effortlessly into the space.

Simple and elegant, the cabin has a box-like form, enclosed on three sides, with one diagonal frontal facade. The tiny house boasts a floor-to-ceiling tinted glass wall that faces towards the views of the valley and the city in the distance. The base of the cabin is slightly elevated, creating a remarkable floating effect, which is accentuated at nighttime by perimeter lighting that illuminates the base of the cabin, giving it an ethereal quality and a sense of lightness.
Raising a small cabin above the ground offers several benefits, including improved ventilation and moisture protection, which help prevent mold and rot. It also deters pests, provides better thermal insulation, and simplifies maintenance access. Additionally, an elevated cabin enhances views and aesthetics, creating a more appealing and harmonious structure within its environment.

Bungalow H was built to be a place of peaceful retreat, a refuge where guests can come to enjoy the majesty of the Mexican Highlands in seclusion. It is a minimalist space, encompassing 29 square meters (312 sq ft), and provides only the essentials for a short off grid stay. Perfect for individuals or couples, the interior of the cabin includes a minimalist interior featuring a master bedroom, open living area with compact wall kitchen, with a small space for indoor dining. A sliding glass door leads out onto a triangular wooden patio with a shaded seating area, where guests can sit and admire the unbeatable views of the valley as the sun sets.
Nestled in a captivating landscape that is elevated by Bautista’s sophisticated design, Bautista’s Bungalow H is a quiet and serene minimalist cabin that provides the perfect spot for a peaceful getaway in the mountains.
