French design firm Quadrapol has unveiled the Hirondelle, a 12.1-square-metre mobile home that redefines compact living through sustainable materials, self-sufficiency, and ease of mobility.
Designed to be purchased and placed without a building permit, the two-level structure provides a practical solution to Europe’s growing space and zoning constraints. Fitted with integrated wheels and a tow bar, the Hirondelle can be easily relocated, allowing its owners the freedom to live and travel across multiple sites. The name Hirondelle, meaning swallow in French, reflects both its lightweight design and the freedom of movement it embodies.
Built from solid KVH timber and clad in thermo-treated bayous wood, the compact dwelling combines craftsmanship with durability. Large double-glazed aluminum windows and a sliding glass door invite natural light throughout the interior while maintaining insulation and energy efficiency.

Inside, the layout has been carefully optimised to provide full residential functionality within its limited footprint. A compact living area integrates a workspace, a fully equipped kitchen, and a modern bathroom, while two elevated sleeping zones at either end maximise the available vertical space.
The high ceilings and expansive glazing create a sense of openness and connection to the surrounding landscape, while the warm timber finishes contribute to a natural, calming atmosphere.
Designed for both sustainability and mobility, the Hirondelle can function as a permanent residence, guest house, or mobile retreat. Each unit is priced from €38,900 and can be delivered across Europe.
